Greek Park is officially opened in Odessa
On September 2, within the framework of the celebration of the Day of the City of Odessa, the grand opening of the Greek Park on the slopes of Primorsky Boulevard took place. The solemn event was timed to the celebration of the 224th anniversary of Odessa.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavel Klimkin, the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov, the philanthropist of the park reconstruction, the head of the Charity Foundation Panteleimon Bumburas, the mayor of Piraeus Yannis Moralis and the Counselor of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Ukraine Alexandros Buduris, solemnly cut the red ribbon.
Earlier this place was the Lunar Park, which over the years has declined. Panteleimon Bumbouras took the initiative to engage in its reconstruction. Reconstruction of the Greek Park began in 2017. The improvement project approved the city government. The construction contractor is SK Hephaestus, whose specialists have developed a comprehensive project. To prevent landslides on the slope, the builders slaughtered about 700 piles into the ground and installed a strong retaining wall. Our company also took part in the project, picking up the unique lift equipment.
The Greek park is divided into conditional three parts: an open-air art zone, a children's entertainment and a pleasure park. The total area of the park is 33,908.1 square meters.
The total area of landscaping - 22 925.7 square meters.
Each part of the park will be equipped with walking terraces, alleys and park furniture. In addition, modern lighting has been installed on the territory and the necessary communications have been made (drainage system, sewage system, irrigation system for green spaces, etc.).
Access to the park is provided by massive staircases from the upper terrace of the Primorsky Boulevard, a modern KONE panoramic elevator, a through tunnel under the Potemkin Stairs connecting the Greek and Istanbul parks.
You can get into the park either from the Potemkin Stairs or down the steps from Primorsky Boulevard. For pedestrians with wheelchairs and for citizens with limited mobility, a KONE elevator is provided, which will help them to climb or descend without difficulty. This is important, since it was in principle impossible for people with disabilities to get to this territory before.
The initial design of the park, presented by the Descartes architectural studio and developed by its founder Anatoly Eksarev, initially envisioned the construction along the retaining wall of Primorsky Boulevard of a number of buildings decorated in the style of “pseudo-classicism” rich in retail outlets and restaurants. In turn, the founder of the studio, Nat Golovchenko, had previously tried to convince the residents of Odessa that the purpose of the parks had now changed - and people now walk in them not to walk and relax in the shade of the trees, but to eat and have fun. However, later the project was redesigned under public pressure - it reduced the retail space, increased the area of green space and abandoned the concept of "shopping center among trees".
The art zone of the park owes its name to the creative idea of the authors of the project and architects. Going down from the main massive stairs, guests of the park will see copies of ancient Greek statues.
The main attraction is the unique “Beginning of the Beginning” fountain, created by Odessa sculptor Mikhail Reva. According to the author's idea, the image symbolizes the universe. The sculpture of the fountain consists of 150 separate parts that were assembled by hand.
The Greek Park is a gift to Odessa from the “Bumburas Foundation” as a sign of strengthening friendship between Odessa and Greece. The second phase of the creation of the Greek Park is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2019. Then the Museum of Greek Culture will open here, a playground will appear for children and much more.
